Dear Saint Julz,

I like to go out and party every weekend and then find myself too hung over to do my workout on Mondays. Chuck a Wednesday night mid-week binge into the mix and my workouts are stuffed for the whole week! I’m sure there are lots of other queens that would like to know the solution to this one!

The dilemma!!
You want to work out so you look great when you go out, but when you go out you end up with a hangover and can’t work out…So, what’s a boy/boi to do?

Giving up the evenings on the turps is one option, but back in the real world…Exercising with a hangover is a very special thing. If you are sick enough you don’t want to or can’t get off the couch then you should probably stay there, for now anyway. However, exercising with a mild hangover isn’t going to do you any harm. Chances are you’ll end up doing a less than Olympic effort the day after the night before as your body is putting most of your energy into recovering so don’t go thinking you’ll get anywhere near your personal best. Just do a bit of cardio and home for an afternoon nap, save impressing the hot guy on the treadmill for another day.

If you are just feeling vaguely dodgy and are pondering whether that workout is going to make you feel better or worse? The thing to watch out for is dehydration and low blood sugar, both will kick in after a hard night and both are inclined to make you turn pale and feel faint (mmmmm, could work if hot guy would come to your rescue….).

Drink plenty of water and a bottle of particularly gruesomely coloured sugary sports drink and you’ll be just fine and dandy! (Stay away from the caffeine though.).

But perhaps the solution is easier than you thought…Why not combine your night out with your exercise? Richard Simmons whacked some dodgy dance moves on a DVD and called it a cardio party- you could do the same! Okay, so maybe leave the vid cam back at the flat but you can still dance the night away and call it a workout. Be warned though, while bench pressing the barman could be considered an excellent chest workout you’ll make more friends by doing your weight training at the gym.
